Welcome to Art125 Topics in Contemporary Art

Hello and welcome to Art125 Topics in Contemporary Art. My name is Jonathan Gabel, and I will be your professor for this class. Along with the course material which will be available on Mercer’s Website I will be maintaining pages here on my own website where we can continue the dialogue throughout the class. Each unit will have it’s own page. I will usually repeat the content from the introduction section here. This is also a good place to post general questions for each unit. These pages will always be grouped together at jonathangabel.com/learn/art125 so go ahead and bookmark it now. The orange and gray circle in the side menu will also always get you there.

Once again, any questions that you have, probably someone else has them too, so don’t be shy, ask away. Each unit will have a page on my website where you can post comments or questions, and I should be able to reply pretty quickly.

Introduce yourself below so I can add you to the list of approved participants, and use this page to ask or post anything related to the class in general.

  2. Can you, please, tell me where I can find the slideshows and the reading regarding Sartre’s movement?

  3. Hello Professor and Class,

  5. Hi Professor and fellow students,
My name is Jayne, I am glad that this class is offered on line. By June of 2013 I hope to finally finish my degree as a special Ed Assistant. Due to a recent illness I did not expect, it has made it hard for me to attend classes at the campus. This only set me back a year but thanks to the on line classes it has made it possible to finish my degree. The good part is my health is getting better and I am looking to getting back to the classroom, and using what I have learned from this class to enhance the students knowlege of Art and its history.

  7. Hi my name is Andrea Barratt and I am in my final year studying Early Childhood Education. I was always interested in art, but never had the opportunity to learn about it before now.
I think the Thursday deadline would be better for readings and submissions.

    • Hey Andrea!

It’s funny you should say that! My sister actually started out as an art major, and recently switched to early childhood education! I thought that was such a coincidence haha! Look forward to conversing with you this semester.

  8. I think having the question due Thursday is a good idea also. It would give me enough time to read everything and get everything done.

    Thanks!

  16. Hello all. I’m Bill. I’m a 2010 graduate of Mercer, AAS in Automotive Technology. After working as an auto tech for 5 years at Chrysler-Jeep, I decided I would rather be behind a desk than under a car. I’m in my last semester at Peen College of Technology, major Automotive Management. Thought this would be a fun way to spend winter break, and earn extra credits.
