The Course

Exploration of trends and topics in contemporary art from 1945 to the present, involving a diverse range of artists who challenge preconceived notions of the role of art in today’s society. Students will learn to identify analyze and write about art through multi-media presentations, discussions, artists’ talks, and a field trip.

Required Texts:

Erica Doss, Twentieth Century American Art, Oxford History of Art

Evaluation of Student Learning:

Students will be expected to complete weekly homework assignments on-time. Grading is based on quality of written assignments, class participation, exams, preparedness, and attendance. The following is a breakdown of the final grade by percentage:

  • Research Paper 20%
  • Exams (two total) 30%
  • Homework 30%
  • Attendance/ Participation 20%
  • TOTAL 100%

Students are expected to comply with college-wide requirements for academic integrity. The entire policy on Academic Integrity is located in the Student Handbook and on the college website.
